Little Lady in Pink
We toured colosseums and cathedrals, we watched the sun rise over rivers and watched it set over the sea, and we walked through ancient ruins and modern art museums. But between the monuments and the castles and the daily stop for gelato, there were many quiet parks and side streets and alleyways, and more of the everyday life of everywhere Italy that, perhaps, go mostly unseen by the throngs of tourists in the duomos and the piazzas. These were the sights and sounds, or lack thereof, that I’ll remember most. Here, a young lady in pink strolls along one of Venice’s many quiet canals, under flowered balconies, past hanging laundry, away from the crowds and the shops, simply enjoying her reflection in the water. This is the Italy that I will remember most.
